Looking Forward to the New Year!

We currently working on our hot rod to get it ready for race season. In addition to new hides all around, we are freshening the motor and tweaking the nitrous system. Our plans are to compete in the Top 8 Doorslammers series at various tracks in South and North Carolina. Check back from time to time for posts of our race schedule. Our best run of last year was 4.81 seconds at 149 mph at Union County Dragway. We know we have to step it up to run with the Doorslammers but we're up for it!

Trouble in Our Camp!

We experienced a problem today in our ignition box when the timing retard didn't work and the starter kicked back and broke several teeth off of the flexplate. Nothing to do but pull the bullet out and replace the flexplate. We'll be back up by Wednesday if all goes well.

Progress on Our Hot Rod!

We are making progress with our engine swap. We dropped the 632 in today and hope to have the change completed this week. Need to do some work on the headers as the new motor is taller and our old headers won't quite fit. We hope to be ready for a shakedown in April.

Camp Happy Days Car Show on March 27th!

On Saturday, March 27th, we will be participating in the 26th Annual Southern Drag Racing Association's Car Show to raise money for "Camp Happy Days". The show will be held in the parking lot of the Texas Roadhouse on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, beginning at 10:00 a.m.. Judging will be completed and trophies will be awarded at 3:00 p.m. We were honored to receive the "Best in Show" trophy last year for the Charleston 9 "Never Forget" Camaro and we will be there this again year with Engine 11, "Big Red", our Team Fire Chief's car, as well as the CFD 9 Camaro. The SDRA raised over $ 8,500.00 for Camp Happy Days last year during this show so please come out and join us for a great day and a great cause!

The Work Begins!

We have pulled our old motor out and Del Harwell is working his magic on our transmission in preparation for our new bullet. We hope to be dropping the new motor in by next weekend. Stay tuned for new pics.

Plans for the Coming Year!!

After taking several months off, we are excited about the upcoming racing season. We have recently bought a 632 BBC motor and will drop it in soon. We were fortunate to get this motor in a trade with Chet Couch who is building a new late model Corvette roadster and wanted our 468 for his new car. The 632 was originally in Chet's Pro Stock S-10 and ran a best time for him of 4.97. Our goal is pretty simple. We want to make a four second run. Enough said!

In order to handle the 632, Del Harwell of Harwell Motorsports is going through our 'Glide and will add his contribution to our new goal. I am in awe of many of our friends who have great cars and make consistent runs while competing on a regular basis. We are in it for the fun and look forward to going after our four very soon. We want to run as much as time and money will allow and look forward to seeing all of you soon.

The "Never Forget" Camaro

MisFire Racing has joined with the Charleston Firefighter Support Team to display the “Never Forget” Camaro in memory of the Charleston 9, who gave their lives in the line of duty on June 18, 2007, in what will now be forever known as the Sofa Super Store Fire. It is hoped that this project will serve to raise public awareness of the dangers of firefighting and to the sacrifices made by our firefighters in the performance of their duties. Please take time to view the graphics displayed on the car to include the mural on the back wing as it illustrates our theme of “Memories of the Past, Visions for the Future”.

This car is a 1990 Chevrolet Camaro, originally built by Gateway Race Cars in Fenton, Missouri in 1990. It was campaigned on the National Hot Rod Association’s National Circuit as a Pro Stock car for several years before finding its’ way to south Florida where it was raced on the local circuits there. It was powered by a 700 cubic inch engine in those days with a best quarter mile speed of 206 miles per hour.

In November, 2006, it was acquired by MisFire Racing and brought to South Carolina. In April, 2007, it was heavily damaged in a crash at Lowcountry Dragstrip in Berkeley County, South Carolina. It required nearly two years and much effort to restore it to a race ready condition. The car is currently powered by a Doug Livingston 468 cubic inch big block Chevrolet engine and runs the eighth mile in about 5.50 seconds.

Also, our sincere appreciation goes to Stacy Lundy of Stacy’s Designs, of North Charleston, South Carolina for the hand-painted flames and other graphics, to include the mural and the twenty-three carat gold leaf C9 emblem, that add a very special touch to this lasting tribute.

The All American Fire Muster!

Our Team spent Saturday at the North Charleston American LaFrance Fire Museum and Educational Center showing our hot rod to the folks gathered for the All American Fire Muster. It was an exciting day as we watched the competition and shared the story of the Charleston 9.

We were honored to show our hot rod this past Thursday in Mooresville, N.C. to help raise funds for the Brad Baity Patriotism Scholarship. It was a great day in "Race City USA", home of over forty NASCAR race teams.

Brad, one of the Charleston 9, was raised in Mooresville and attended Mooresville High School. This scholarship is given in Brad's memory each year to a deserving graduate of Mooresville High School that exemplifies Brad love of God, family and country.

"Chariots of Fire" Now Available!

During the SC Firefighters' Fire-Rescue Conference in Myrtle Beach this month, many of you asked us for a copy of the "Chariots of Fire" mural that appears on the rear wing of the "Never Forget" Camaro.

The mural depicts five generations of Charleston fire engines, featuring a 1882 steamer fire engine and Engine 6, now running out of the Cannon Street fire house. The mural emphasizes our Team's theme, "Memories of the Past, Visions of the Future", which is intended to honor the Charleston 9 and all of our retired firefighters who dedicated their lives to serving the citizens of our community and to recognize the contributions of our current firefighters who are the future of our department.

Prints of the mural are now available, 9" by 25", printed on high quality paper and suitable for framing, by contacting Gerald Mishoe at gerald@scfirefighters.org or by calling (843) 609-8300. The cost of the print, including shipping, is $ 25.00. All proceeds from the sale of these prints will go to the "Raising Engine 11" project.

Remembering the Charleston 9

From July 15-18, we were honored to participate in the South Carolina State Firefighters' Association's Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach. We had a booth in the exhibit hall displaying the "Never Forget" Camaro as we honored the Charleston 9. It was heartwarming to speak to all who were concerned about the Charleston Fire Department and to hear them express their respect and gratitude for the sacrifices of our fallen heroes.

"Never Forget" Camaro T-Shirts Now Available!

Team Misfire Racing is now offering t-shirts of their "Never Forget" Camaro to support the completion of the "Raising Engine 11" project. Engine 11 is a 1961 Mack from the Charleston Fire Department that was retired in 1991 and sat in storage until last year when it was acquired by the Charleston Firefighter Support Team. It is being restored in honor of all members, past and present, of the Charleston Fire Department. It will be used by the Support Team in their community outreach programs as a tribute to the contributions our firefighters make to the community on a daily basis. "Never Forget" Camaro Makes First Shake Down Runs!

We went to Midway Dragstrip tonight and made several runs to check out our hot rod. It ran fairly well, with the best run being a 5.78. It definitely needs more gear and we will tend to that shortly. Bottom line is that car is running well and we are looking forward to making the improvements to make it faster. We were honored to have Mikey French's mom, Diane, join us tonight to watch the first runs of the car. She can be seen in the top left of the photograph in the grandstands wearing a dark blue shirt. Diane is a wonderful supporter of all that we do and we were happy to see her tonight. Thank you Diane!

"Never Forget" Camaro Wins Again--Twice!

The "Never Forget" Camaro took top honors today in the Trident Technical College's Spring Car Show in North Charleston. It won first place in the Drag Car division and also won the College's Advisory Board's Trophy. Gerald Mishoe is pictured above with Stacy Lundy, the creator of the flame and graphic paint work on the car, with the Advisory Board's Trophy.
